Tooketree Company receives National Recognition and an Award for its Innovative Response to Climate Change

Tooketree Passive Homes, a sustainable builder based in Muskoka, has recently been recognized by one Canadian and one International organization focused on promoting climate solutions.

Foresight Canada, a cleantech accelerator that launches, commercializes and scales climate solutions across Canada, named Tooketree Passive Homes to its Foresight 50 list. The list recognizes Canada’s most investible cleantech ventures helping to drive the transition to a green economy.

Tooketree’s co-founder and CFO, Rick Zytaruk celebrated this milestone in Vancouver, BC, alongside international investors, industry leaders, and innovators from across the Canadian cleantech community.

“We are thrilled with the recognition that our work is seen by investors as a solution to climate change and the housing crisis,” says Zytaruk.

Days later in Toronto, Tooketree was presented with the Innovation in Industry Award at the Ontario Embodied Carbon Awards, presented in partnership with Climate Leadership Forum. The awards celebration took place on the evening of November 12th.

These Awards celebrate outstanding project leaders who minimize their environmental impact by reducing their carbon footprint. The program aims to spark innovation and encourage project teams to prioritize minimizing embodied carbon emissions.

“Receiving this award for our work motivates us to work even harder and to grow our business for the benefit of Muskoka and the climate,” says Zytaruk.

From their Baysville factory, the tight-knit team at Tooketree Passive Homes manufactures high-quality prefabricated wall, floor, and roof panels made with natural materials. Tooketree was established in 2018 to address both the climate crisis and the need for affordable housing.

Tooketree Passive Homes is a social enterprise dedicated to revolutionizing the building industry in response to the climate crisis. About Tooketree

Tooketree’s SEED (Sustainable, Ecological, Efficient, Durable) Building Systems help builders achieve the world’s highest standards for energy efficiency, sustainability, comfort, and durability. The CSA-certified wall, floor and roof panels meet rigorous health and environmental criteria.

SEED panels are ultra-insulated with natural materials. Plant-based, recycled insulation choices store carbon for the lifetime of the building. Tooketree limits the creation of waste and unnecessary energy consumption through a controlled fabrication process and material choices. The company avoids petrochemicals and synthetic compounds, opting instead for clean, healthy, bio-based materials. High-performance smart membranes control moisture within SEED building system components and allow Tooketree to produce sustainable homes that last generations.

Passive buildings enable heating and cooling-related energy savings of up to 90% compared with typical building stock and over 75% compared to average new builds. An onsite renewable energy system such as solar panels can generate the energy a passive building requires.

SEED panels are efficiently precision-manufactured in a controlled environment. Installation can be completed in days, resulting in a sealed, insulated building envelope ready for rough-ins and cladding. Prefab construction streamlines construction schedules and dramatically increases the quality and durability of buildings.
