Small businesses are barely hanging on – Matt Richter

After two years of necessary restrictions and lockdowns, businesses are facing incredible hardships, but Doug Ford continues to delay creating a plan to help the business owners that are Ontario’s economic backbone.

“If we don’t act now, then more businesses will shut their doors forever.”

That’s what leader of the Ontario Greens Mike Schreiner said in a press conference last week, calling on Ford to do more.

Ontario needs creative solutions to help struggling small businesses who face challenges now and after subsidies are gone. The key to growing Ontario’s economy after restrictions have been lifted is restoring consumer confidence, alleviating debt and getting employees back to work.

We need your help to tell Ford to act now.

Ontario Greens have a plan.

Ford’s delays in offering more support to hard-hit businesses will ensure some will close their doors for good, putting more people out of work during this uncertain time. Businesses need more support now to make sure that doesn’t happen.

Ontario Greens are calling on Doug Ford to:

Add an immediate infusion of grants, without delay, that are timely and accessible with a small business owner support system that helps employers navigate the application process.

Fix the eligibility issues with the Ontario Small Business Support Grant.

Expand the staycation tax credit to include dining at restaurants when it is safe.

Add sector specific support for businesses falling through the cracks and who have been hardest hit.

Reimpose the commercial eviction ban.

Ontario Greens are also calling for an expansion of the “staycation tax credit”, to encourage Ontarians to spend money on dining and hotels right here at home. (Once public health guidance allows it.)

Join us in telling Ford to support small businesses and take action now.

Sincerely,

Matt Richter
