OSSTF/FEESO – committed to protecting and enhancing public education. –
(May 2, 2022) The Ontario Secondary School Teachers Federation (OSSTF) announced on Friday their endorsement of Matt Richter as a candidate for Parry Sound – Muskoka MPP in the upcoming election on June 2nd, 2022. With the endorsement, Richter—a longtime teacher with the Trillium Lakeland District School Board who also serves as Education Critic for the Ontario Greens—becomes only the second non-Liberal or NDP candidate to ever be endorsed by the union.
OSSTF represents 60,000 public high school teachers, occasional teachers, teaching assistants, psychoeducational consultants, social workers, child and youth counselors, speech-language pathologists, continuing education teachers, early childhood educators, instructors, and support staff from several Ontario universities. Mike Schreiner was the first Ontario Greens candidate endorsed by the union earlier this spring. Matt Richter is the first non-incumbent Green to be endorsed by the union.
“It’s incredibly humbling for me to receive this vote of confidence in our campaign and our education policies. As an educator and parent, I’ve seen first-hand how the cuts and chaos in our schools over the past two years have negatively impacted our students and children. It’s time for real leadership in education, and electing educators and other education staff is critical to building better schools and better students,” says Matt Richter.
“This historic endorsement reinforces what our team already knows: that our campaign has the broad support of this riding and the energy to bring fresh ideas and real leadership to Parry Sound – Muskoka.”
