April 29, 2022 – Matt Richter in Response to the Ford Government’s Budget

Matt Richter candidate Parry Sound-Muskoka

“As I said when the $14 million was promised earlier this week, this proposed budget, if it’s actually passed, will allow Muskoka Algonquin Healthcare (MAHC) to move forward with the much-needed redevelopment of our local hospitals. After two-and-a-half years of waiting, this would be a positive step for our community and brings much-needed relief to those who have worked so hard to move this forward.”

“But a hospital without doctors and nurses is just another empty building.”

“The past two years have reminded us how fragile our health system is. This budget doesn’t go far enough to address staffing shortages, which MAHC identified as their number one issue. We need to repeal Bill 124 which will allow nurses to be fairly compensated.”

“This promise of the proposed hospital funding will be reassuring for the people of Muskoka and Almaguin, however, we need real, long-term investment in health care, not just Band-Aids during election season.”
